IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia 2027
Sunday 18 April 2027. A 1.9 km sea swim off Malvarrosa beach, 90 km on the bike out to the Sierra Calderona and a 21.1 km run through the Turia gardens, finishing at the City of Arts and Sciences (ironman.com). Everything below was checked on 19 October 2026. Where a figure comes from the 2026 edition, we say so.
Key facts
| Date | Sunday 18 April 2027 |
| Distance | 1.9 / 90 / 21.1 km (middle distance) |
| Drafting | Not allowed: 12 m zone, 25 s to pass (FAQ) |
| Series | IRONMAN Pro Series 2027 and qualifier for the 2027 70.3 World Championship (registration) |
| Minimum age | 18 on race day |
| Entry | Sold out (registration) |
| 2027 price | Not published |
Entry: sold out, no waitlist
The registration page says “Registration Sold Out” and the FAQ states there is no waitlist. The same page also shows a “General Entry” card marked “Opening soon”. The site contradicts itself, and we have not seen any slots on sale. The routes still open all cost extra:
- IRONMAN Foundation Community Fund: USD 1,108.25.
- TEAM IMF: commit to raising USD 1,900.
- Xclusive Challenge.
- IRONMAN Experiences packages (NIRVANA): EUR 325 and EUR 625. Race entry not included.
Course
- Swim (1 lap): sea swim off Malvarrosa beach. The site warns the course “is being reviewed with local authorities and may change” (course).
- Bike (1 lap, 90 km): from Malvarrosa to the Sierra Calderona and back to the City of Arts and Sciences, with T2 on Paseo de la Alameda. The 2026 athlete guide gives 600 m of climbing (2026 guide, in Spanish). The 2027 figure is not out yet.
- Run (2 laps): two out-and-backs along the Turia gardens.
Cut-offs (2026 reference)
The 2027 cut-offs are not published. These are the 2026 ones, counted from your own start time (2026 guide):
| Point | Cut-off |
|---|---|
| End of swim | 1 h 10 min |
| Bike km 60.6 | 4 h 08 min |
| End of bike | 5 h 30 min |
| Run km 10.6 | 7 h 05 min |
| Finish | 8 h 30 min |
Do the maths. If you swim at 3:00 min/100 m (57 min) and take 5 minutes in T1, you need to average about 20.2 km/h over the 90 km to make the bike cut-off. For a newcomer, the risk is on the bike, not in the water.
Is it a good first race?
The race site calls it “perfect for first-timers”. And 89% of the 2026 entrants were doing their first race at this distance (Official Press, in Spanish). For your first triathlon ever, though, our criteria say no: it is a middle-distance race. If you have never raced, start with a sprint and make the 70.3 a goal for your second season.
Water and wetsuit
- Temperature: the site header gives an average of 19 °C (19 °C in 2024, 18 °C in 2025, no figure for 2026). The course text says “16-17 °C expected”, and the 2026 guide said 15-18 °C. All three figures come from the organiser. Expect cool water.
- Wetsuit: under IRONMAN rules, allowed up to and including 24.5 °C and banned above that, 5 mm maximum thickness (FAQ). At 16-19 °C it will be allowed, and you should bring one.
Logistics (2026 reference)
- Athlete check-in: in 2026, Friday 10:00-19:00 and Saturday 10:00-14:00 at Malvarrosa. Only the athlete can collect the race pack, with photo ID and a federation licence if you have one.
- Bike check-in: Saturday 13:00-19:00 at T1. The red bag goes to T2. Transition uses blue, red and white bags, and bikes are racked the day before.
- Start: in 2026 the pro men started at 07:15 and the pro women at 07:25, followed by a rolling start for age groupers.
Travel
- Air: Valencia airport (VLC). The site says it is 8 km west of the city centre (directions).
- Train: high-speed AVE trains to Joaquín Sorolla station.
- Official hotels: NIRVANA (accommodation).
- Bike: shipping with TeamTruck (pick-up in the UK and Ireland) and rental with France Bike Rentals (pre-race info).
For a sense of spend, the IVIE study of the 2025 edition puts foreign participants at EUR 166 per day over a 4.6-day stay (Valencia News, in Spanish).
Photos
Sportograf covers the race and offers a “Foto-Flat”. The price is not published.
Missed out on a slot?
There are two more middle-distance races in the Valencia region that spring: Infinitri 113 Peñíscola on 25 April, a week later and hillier (955 m of climbing on the bike), and the Half at Infinitri Burriana on 5 June. Both were open for entries when we checked.
Still to be published
The 2027 price, start times, 2027 cut-offs, 2027 bike elevation, field size and technical officials. The race page will be updated as details come out.
